All About GAFAS
We welcome anyone in the greater Kaiserslautern area, German or American, who wants to learn more about each other's culture through fellowship and good times. Our group is dedicated to maintaining the close ties of friendship between Germany and the United States that have existed for over 50 years. Through German members, Americans can learn first hand about German culture, holidays, and customs. By participating in the group's events, Americans can experience the delights of German fests, sports such as kegeling, and travel to historic and cultural sightes alongside Germans who share their interests. Americans in the greater Kaiserslautern area can do a lot to educate Germans about life in America. Friendship between individuals makes friendship between nations easier because each will have a better understanding of the other.
Our Goals:
- Foster good will, friendship, and understanding among Germans and Americans
- Share good times and make friends though activities such as visits to fests and cultural sites, excursions, and group parties.
- Exchange information so that Germans and Americans can understand the differences and similarities between the two cultures.
- Bring an understanding that the history of our nations has been intertwined since the beginning of colonial American. Each has contributed to the culture of the other.
- Assist each other in learning the other's language through conversation and classes.
- Foster a sense of community by: assisting the local area with civic projects, making Americans feel welcome, helping Americans adjust to living in Germany.
- To develop permanent friendships among our German and American members which will outlast the return of American members to the United States.
